Project Geochromia: Group Ceramics Exhibition LITHOSPHERE
LITHOSPHERE is the exhibition from which GeoChromia was born. Presented this year for the third consecutive year, it marks ARTLAB’s first artistic research project exploring the relationship between geology and contemporary ceramics.
In ceramics, the earth is transformed not only into colour but also becomes an integral part of the artwork itself. The participating ceramic artists experiment with the rocks and mineral-rich soils of Serifos through different clay bodies, glaze compositions, and decorative ceramic techniques. Firing temperatures, kiln atmospheres, and each artist’s individual approach transform the same natural material in different ways, revealing the richness of its creative possibilities.
Here, geology is more than a source of inspiration. It becomes material, colour, and form, revealing the artistic potential embedded in the very earth of Serifos.
GeoChromia is an initiative of ARTLAB by Think of Serifos and is presented with the support and under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Serifos.
