Photography workshop for teens: The Art of Photography through our Mobile Phone

As part of the educational activities organized by Art Lab Think of Serifos, and in an effort to engage the teenage audience in Serifos, we are organizing a one-day photography workshop in collaboration with the professional photographer, Nikos Kokolakis.

The workshop will take place on Sunday, May 25th from 5pm-7pm at Art Lab and Nikos Kokolakis will cover the following topics:

  • How to create an interesting photographic frame
  • How to photograph landscapes, buildings, portraits
  • How to play with shadow and light
  • How to edit photos and which apps to use
  • The profession of a photographer

    Nikos Kokolakis was born and raised in Athens and is originally from Serifos and Crete. He has completed his studies as a sound engineer. In 2012 he decided to leave his job in Athens, returned to Serifos and engaged in beekeeping. Along with beekeeping, he started exploring the art of photography, capturing the society of bees through his lens.

    – 2015-2016: He attended beekeeping seminars at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences.
    – 2018: Four of his photographs were selected to adorn Hellenic Post stamps celebrating World Bee Day.
    – 2019: He was invited to Rize, Turkey to capture the hallucinogenic “mad honey” that bees produce from the Rhododendron ponticum plant.
    – 2019 to date: He maintains a partnership with the Greek company Apivita providing them with his beekeeping photographs.
    – 2022: He wins the first gold prize in a world competition of beekeeping photography.

    – He collaborates with the Agricultural University of Athens and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, providing selected beekeeping photographs to be included in published books.
    – His photos were featured in the book No Bees, No Life, written by bee enthusiasts and scientists from 32 countries, highlighting the importance of bees for our planet.
    -He is studying architectural photography at Leica and, to this day, works with various architects, interior designers, and property owners to capture their work through his lens.
