Cycles of Serifos | Music & Art inspired by the island

As part of our creative and art activities for this summer, Artlab invites you to the Music & Art Event “Cycles of Serifos” with Elke de Swardt-Kraus, Takis Theophilopoulos and Amelie (Amy) Kraus.

Cycles of Serifos is a collection of ten original songs written and composed by Elke, poetically translated into Greek by Takis, and brought to life through Amy’s artistic interpretation. Inspired by Serifos’s daily rhythms and seasonal changes, the project celebrates the island through an interplay of history, colours, and textures.

On 30 August 2025 Elke (vocal and keyboard) will perform some of her songs at the Art Lab of Serifos. Amy’s visual interpretations will also be exhibited from the 29 to 30 August 2025.

Cycles of Serifos is gratefully dedicated to the island and its people.

Elke is a professor of occupational therapy in Berlin who began writing songs with her guitar as a teenager in Cape Town, and later completed a one-year diploma in Church Music. Her creative spirit is most inspired by folk and jazz. Since 2012, she has written at least one song each year about Serifos — many of which she has performed with fellow musicians at various venues across the island. Her next recording project is a collection of these Serifos-inspired songs.΄

Takis is an advertising veteran, an experienced sailor, currently running Homa Villas in Vagia Serifos. He has translated several of Elke’s Serifos songs from English into Greek, capturing their lyrical nuance and emotional essence, just adding to them a little Aegean spirit. Takis brings a rich blend of Greek and rock music to life with his guitar and vocals. He is also a devoted Bruce Springsteen fan!

Amy is an art student and working model based in Athens, Milan, Berlin, and Paris. In recent years, her passion for drawing and painting has found new expression through design work for Think of Serifos. For Cycles of Serifos, she created a visual counterpart to the songs using a combination of photography, physical and digital art printed on metal.
