Stratification
An open ceramic vessel whose form serves as a space for receiving and holding materials and traces from Serifos. Soils and small rocks collected from different parts of the island have been incorporated into the clay, together with ceramic fragments, drawn elements, and painted interventions.
The local materials act as natural pigments, shaping the surface while retaining their original textures, irregularities, and the transformations that occur during firing. The rough, layered surface evokes a soil sample or a miniature geological map, where painting, clay, and rock coexist within a single material narrative.

Vanessa Anastasopoulou
Vanessa Anastasopoulou
Vanessa Anastasopoulou was born in 1972. She studied at Wimbledon School of Art (BA Hons) and the Royal College of Art (MA Painting). She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece (Gallery 7, Zoumboulakis Galleries, Martinos Gallery, Benaki Museum) and internationally, including in the UK, Belgium, Japan, Italy, Lithuania, and South Korea.
She represented Greece at the European Ceramic Context 2018 in Bornholm, Denmark.
Her works are held in the public collections of Deutsche Bank, British Airways, and Aylesford Newsprint, and her work is featured in the Michelangelo Foundation’s Homo Faber Guide.
In 2024–2025, she was awarded the Homo Faber Duo Fellowship.
For the past ten years, she has run “Blue Octopus”, a creative ceramics and painting studio for children aged 6–14.
She lives and works in Athens.
