Miners
The inspiration behind my artwork “Miners” is the history of the serifian land itself. Pieces of land, rocks, minerals, and ores carry the revolutionary history of the island. In August 1916, the miners of Serifos—together with their wives and children—rose up against exploitation in the island’s mines, even at the cost of their lives.
Using lithography, I transferred an archival photograph of the Serifos miners with their tools inside a mine tunnel onto a piece of clay. Every piece of land carries the history of its people, and I chose to share this side of the story using a bit of its soil.

Petsa Poutouri Sofia
Petsa Poutouri Sofia

Sofia Petsa-Poutouri was born in Athens in 1991. She studied medicine and specialized in general surgery and surgical oncology. She began working with ceramics in 2018, while still practicing medicine. In 2021, she dedicated herself entirely to ceramic art, studying under the guidance of her teacher and mentor, Menandros Papadopoulos. She trained on the potter's wheel alongside Andreas Mitsios and Giannis Liakos.
The source of inspiration behind her work is humanity, as matter and part of nature, but also as part of society. For Sofia the spark that fuels the creation of an artpiece is the mental, political or social awareness. At the same time, many of her creations hide another look at the "inside," at the human body, something so familiar yet often unknown.
Sofia has her own ceramics workshop in Votanikos, where she creates personal collections and custom pieces. At the same time, she prepares her visual artwork by participating in selected exhibitions and teaches glazing technology at "Iridanos" Ceramics School, alongside Menandros Papadopoulos.
