Diptych I / II / III / IV
Forty years of photographic journey connect my two families: the “nuclear” one, i.e. my close family environment, in a conscious autobiographical exploration of my personal identity, and my “social” family, the people of Serifos with whom I developed a relationship of trust and substantial intimacy.
My first visit to the island in 1985 marked the beginning of a long-term relationship that gradually made Serifos my second home. My love for the nature, history and traditions of the island brought me into closer contact with its inhabitants, whom I photographed in their homes and activities, at their weddings and festivals.
From my photographic archive, I selected a series of characteristic landscapes of the island that I combined, in the form of diptychs, with their human presence or absence within the space.

Pericles Alkidis
Pericles Alkidis
Pericles Alkidis was born in Athens in 1953. He studied Electronics and Electrical Engineering in the United Kingdom. Alongside his professional career, he pursued photography creatively as a personal means of expression. His first focused engagement with photography came in 1980–81, with a series of portraits taken during his military service.
He is best known for his ongoing photographic project Family Album (1986– ), a consciously autobiographical exploration of his personal identity, centred on memory, the interplay of roles and family.
His work has been widely presented in solo and group exhibitions in Greece, including at the Athens Photography Center, MOMus–Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, the Municipal Art Galleries of Athens and Ioannina, the Benaki Museum as part of the Athens Photo Festival, Agathi Art Gallery and the House of Cyprus, among others. His work has also been exhibited internationally in the United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland.
He was a member of the Athens Photography Center from 1987 until 2004, when the organisation ceased its activities.
He has published two leporellos (small accordion-fold photographic books). The first, entitled SERIFOS WITHIN, features ten black-and-white photographs taken between 1988 and 2006. The second, SERIFOS – 10 FOLDS, comprises ten colour photographs taken between 2008 and 2025.
He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
He currently lives between Athens and Serifos.
