Rusted Memories
Rusted are the hills of this land,
hollowed out by dark and cold, iron mining shafts,
that breath sighs of remembrance.
Remembrance that tumbles down the rocky slopes
and drifts away into the Aegean sea.
125 years ago, a young bride boarded a ship full of hopes and dreams,
and sailed to Egypt to get married and start a family in a far away land.
A home fell silent, her door was forever shut.
Sailing away she never looked back.
She never laid foot on these rusty soils, ever again.
