Maria Sotiropoulou

I am an illustrator and performance artist. I have studied visual communication, design and arts in Athens and New York. I think that a good piece of art can become a mental refuge and personal worship space. In my drawings and performances, I tell stories of compassion, I visualise new daily rituals of love and solidarity, I try to highlight and give form to human fragility and the invisibility of mental health problems like anxiety and stress as a result of ptsd. One might usually meet birds and castles in my work as they represent freedom and solitude. Because of my long-term experimentation with various science and art fields I have a problem-solving approach in my art. I have a lifelong learning state of mind as it strengthens my empathy skills and my understanding of the world. All the new input from various science and art fields is refined through my personal life experiences filter and come together in my visual and performance art.

Since 2019, I am collaborating with the team of Think of Serifos as a designer and artist. So far I have created the logo and visual identity, the Medusa illustration, the kids collection “Sun and ship”, “Serifos frog” and I do the creative consulting for the collections.
