This is how it all began, a long time ago, for me. A trip that forced me into new paths and taught me a lot for the rest of my working methods, and artistic attitude. What else could this work be, if not an honest, direct, and short depiction of everything I did learn from the rich soil of this island? \u2018Testing Serifos\u2019 carries the action of experimentation, of the exposure and the surprises that a ceramist can experience out of working with the rich mineral soil of the mythological island of 193px) 100vw, 193px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Giorgos Vavatsis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1974. He studied Visual &amp; Live Art in Gloucestershire University, in England from 1995 to 1998. In 2000, he returned at his hometown and he established his own workshop, where he still works. His ceramic works has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He participated in many ceramic symposiums around Europe and Asia. In 2012, he won the 1st prize in the 50th Panhellenic Ceramic Competition and in 2024 the 1st prize in the 1st Biennale of Contemporary Keramics, in Santorini, Greece. He teaches ceramics in various institutions and studios around Greece and regularly in his own workshop too. In 2013, he established the ceramic production company, \u00abHakah Ceramics Design Production\u00bb, specialized in stoneware table and drink wares. In 2017, he creates a project space named \u201c6exi Contemporary Ceramics\u201d, where national and international invited artists expose their work in Thessaloniki.
